So I have a lot of feelings every single time I hear that people are “angry” or “annoyed” or whatever that they can’t find ONE SINGLE YA BOOK IN THE ENTIRE YA SECTION FOR BOYS TO READ and YOUNG MEN ARE FAILING BECAUSE GIRLS ARE TAKING OVER LITERATURE and HOW CAN BOYS POSSIBLY BE…
My 14 yo son tends to read a lot of the same YA books I read and has no problem with them. Maybe I just have the best kids ever* but I would like to think more boys would read a wider variety if it was introduced to them as books for teens and they were encouraged to read what interests them and not worry about what others think. Of course getting the average teen to not care about his peers opinions is a whole other discussion.
* I do, just saying.Related story, when my son was reading Prom Dates From Hell by Rosemary Clement Moore, at school, he was asked why he was reading vampire romance, and was told he was reading a girl book. I an so glad that he shrugged off those comments and kept right on reading.
